Love Stories and a birthday

On Saturday, my girls and I went to see Love Stories at the Pacific Northwest Ballet. A bit of Swan Lake, a bit of Sleeping Beauty, lots of really huge calf muscles.

Some of the pieces were good, others were really great. I thought I'd enjoy the more traditional pieces, but that turned out not to be the case. I was impressed with Afternoon of a Faun, but my favourite was the Balcony Pas de Deux from Roméo et Juliette. While I can appreciate the other dances, I found Roméo et Juliette more emotional and sensual than the others, and I tend to gravitate toward that anyway.

If you live in Seattle and enjoy ballet, this one is enjoyable enough. I will admit I prefer the full story ballets, like Coppelia or the Nutcracker, but these departures can be fun, too!

Oh, I went to the ballet for my birthday, cuz I'm 32 now. For some reason, 32 seems a lot older than 31, though I still feel like a kid. Oh well...happy birthday to me!
